Lifting The Lid: Curator's Talk

Giffnock Library

Friday 17 May, 1.30pm - 3pm

We welcome Olive Geddes, curator in the Manuscripts and Archives Collections Division of the National Library of Scotland, who developed the exhibition Lifting the Lid: 400 years of food and drink in Scotland.

East Renfrewshire Libraries and Eastwood Park Theatre will be playing host to the touring version of this exhibition from the 15th April until the 4th July.

Olive will present an illustrated talk on the history of food in Scotland

"Scotland has a rich and diverse natural larder with plentiful supplies of fish, game, cereals and fruit.  Yet, the Scots have been branded the 'sick man of Europe' and their diet condemned.  Using the National Library of Scotland's rich collections of recipe books and related material, this talk explores Scotland's changing relationship with food and drink and the myths and traditions associated with its peoples' diet over the last 400 years."
